Сегодняшняя покупка принтера HP LaserJet 1018 была омрачена неработающим usb-кабелем, приобретенным к принтеру в палатке напротив. И, судя по отзывам, с проблемой подключения столкнулся не только я. А вывод из этой истории таков: сэкономив 1$ на usb-кабеле в комплекте с принтером компания HP сильно попортила мне (и, скорее всего, не только мне) впечатление от покупки.

USB кабель

Важно: Принтер не работает с длинным тонким USB кабелем, при покупке убедитесь что вам продали не такой. Подходят короткие «экранированные» кабели (60-70 см, серебристый) или оригинальный кабель от HP — C6518A.

Принтер не опознается с тонким кабелем, показанным справа. В Windows это выглядит как «Неподдерживаемое устройство». В Linux это выглядит вот так (dmesg | tail):

Драйверы

Windows

Копировал с оригинального диска, убрал все языковые папки кроме английского и русского языков:

HP-LaserJet-1018-CD(EN+RU).zip (25.8MB)

Linux

Для печати на HP LaserJet 1018 из линукса я устанавливал драйвер foo2zjs:

Процесс установки (делал на 100% согласно инструкции):

wget -O foo2zjs.tar.gz http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz
tar zxvf foo2zjs.tar.gz
cd foo2zjs
make
./getweb 1018
sudo make install
sudo make install-hotplug
sudo make cups

Затем просто добавил принтер через Yast.
